Online SAT Registration in Delaware: Are Your Students Registered?
The New Castle (Delaware) LGR program had a tough go of it with SAT Registration on Tuesday night. The registration process is very individualized online, and many students got stuck at different parts of the online interface. The places where students “hit a wall” including not remembering their CB username and password, not having a previous registration number available, mis-entering the fee waiver information, not finding the colleges to which they would like scores sent, and not having a credit card number with them. Jocelyn and Toni believe that only about 4 students successfully completed the registration process, though Jocelyn points out that all are now familiar with the website and armed with the LGR College & Scholarship Code (4629).
Jocelyn and Toni plan to work with small groups to complete the registration process during future days, and they recommend that other programs do the workshop one coach group at a time rather than all students or multiple coach groups at once. Please share your experiences, thoughts, and recommendations here. How has SAT Reg gone in your program? Do you have easy computer access? If not, have you been able to secure computer access? What are some glitches that you have found? What are your plans for getting your students to register? What questions do you have?

FROM RICHARD, BRYANT LGR CO-DIRECTOR FOR COLLEGE CHOICE:
Over at the Bryant site, we weren't able to secure a computer lab to get the kids signed up, so we're going to make it an at-home assignment.
We're going to provide the students with explicit instructions and make it a program requirement, at least for the rising seniors. Kids will then have to furnish proof (receipt from website, etc) that they indeed signed up. I think this is preferable to a classroom sign-up. There are just too many little things which have to come together (many of which are already listed above) that really make this activity prohibitive. How many students do you really think are going to bring in their parents'
credit card information? I'm sure many students and their parents would just feel a lot better if they did this in the comfort of their own homes.
I understand there is no guarantee that they sign-up if you aren't there with them, but if you send them the right message, you'll probably set yourself up for a good return. Something to the turn of "You've already worked so hard this summer to raise your scores - not signing up would mean that all your efforts were a waste of time. Here's a chance to see the fruits of your labor. You'll only be rewarded for them."
